HealthCam

HealthCam was developed with the intention of serving as a photo messaging application that allows hospital staff members to communicate through images and other files types that can also be tagged with descriptions, location and other information to improve efficacy in the healthcare setting.  The core necessities identified by user research include affordances for documentation (images), awareness and location motivated the implementation of specific functionality feature in this application.

PROBLEM

Documentation consumes a significant amount of nurses’ time in that they oftentimes must capture images of wounds to document diagnosis and track progress as workers in the hospital setting must be able to locate patients, personnel, medicine, and vacancies as well as communicate with staff members in times of need to request urgent assistance.

SOLUTION

This application tends to the needs of medical staff members by allowing them to communicate effectively and locate objects of interest by capturing images, tagging information to an image such as a text or voice description, or an annotation highlighting an object in the background.  Users can then send this image to a specific user or upload it to the database of the application.
